1. A whole class KWL chart with Tornados by Arlene Erlbach
The teacher will have a KWL chart for the students to look at. The teacher will then ask the students to say what they know about tornados and write down their ideas. Then, the teacher will ask the students what they want to learn about tornados and what questions they have. The teacher will read over all of the questions and tell the students to listen during the reading for the answers to those questions or to listen for new information. After the teacher reads the book, the students will share what they have learned from the book.
2. Clouds Booklet with Clouds by Ann Herriges
The students will be given a piece of yellow construction paper folded hotdog style. The front section will be cut into 5 equal sections. The students will write the name of the different clouds on each of the sections. On the inside of the booklet to the left, the students will either draw or print out a picture of that cloud type. On the right side, they will describe the cloud.
3. New Words Chart with Hurricanes by Arlene Erlbach
There will be a chart divided into 3 columns. The first column will have new vocabulary terms related hurricanes and weather. The next column will be where the students make a guess of what they believe the term means. After the teacher reads the book, the class will look at the third column and give the final definitions for each word.
